English language courses at BELS
BELS specialises in intensive English language courses for adults and children of all nationalities.
The minimum age of BELS adult students is 12 years with no upper age limit. For children the minimum age is 5 years.
There are many courses from beginners to advanced and IELTS
preparation. All offer intensive practice in listening, speaking,
reading and writing skills, using a wide variety of course-books and
audio materials.
We do not use computers in class, as we believe in promoting the maximum amount of contact between teachers and students.
BELS
offers intensive tuition in groups with a maximum size of 20 students.
There are classes at Beginners, Elementary, Pre-Intermediate,
Intermediate, Upper Intermediate and Advanced levels, as well as IELTS
preparation classes.
Teachers for Beginners
are Khmer, Elementary classes are shared between a Khmer teacher and an
expat teacher and all other classes by expat teachers.
All courses offered are on a part-time basis at various times during the day usually totalling 45 hours over a 10 week period.
Further details of our English language programmes are as follows:-
General English Language (GEL)
- The GEL Programme is for adults and for children over 12 years with proven maturity and parent approval (see note below).
- The GEL Programme covers Beginners to Advanced level and IELTS preparation.
- “NEW Cutting Edge” is used throughout this programme.
Kids Programme - From 5 Years +
- Our Kids Programme has been developed using the “English National Curriculum Key Stage 1 & 2", in that we teach the English language through speaking, writing, listening and phonics.
- We further develop students' language skills through games, songs and physical activities.
Young Learners (YLP) - From 7 years +
- The Young Learners Programme has been developed in a similar way to the Kids Programme for those of a more advanced level, and for older and more mature children.
Under 15 years please note:
We
had noticed at entry level testing and through parents' comments
regarding other schools' programmes that some children were being held
back in their English language education by not being unable to gain
access to a GEL type programme until they reach the age of 15+.
On
consultation with parents of children who have gained a high level
score through entry testing, we have placed them into an appropriate
level of our GEL Programme. To date the students aged 12 and 13 years
have settled in well and the students, parents and BELS teachers all
agree it is a success and are very pleased with their progress.
